Hong Dong or Big Splash as he is known in English

sold last year for a staggering $1.5million US dollars making him the most expensive dog in the world!

Originally from the Tibetan Plateus the Tibetan Mastiff is one of the oldest known dog breeds with a liniage dating back millions of years. Renowned and respected for centuries as one of the most loyal and protective dogs, more than 30,000 of them are believed to have travelled with Genghis Khan and his army.

Tibetan Mastiffs have an amazing almost mysticle history and legend has it that the Red Tibetan Mastiff bears the reincarnated souls of monks and nuns – even Buddha himself is thought to have traveled with one.

Whilst most of us would see 1 million dollars a tad expensive even for a “designer” pet, Hong Dong’s breeder Lu Liang says the dog is a “perfect specimen” and worth the price of one million, five hundred thousand dollars.

Hong Dong’s new owner, claims, he will be able to charge up to $10,000 dollars yes (ten thousand dollars) for the dogs sperm.  If he chooses to breed it any offspring can be sold for millions making Big Splash an incredibly sound investment!

Five years ago a Tibetan Mastiff cost around $5000 dollars In the last five years the price of a pup has gone from $5,000 to its current price of 1.5 million.
